What is your artistic background?
I have a bachelors degree in the arts with a major in fashion~design. I continue to perfect my skills on a regular basis in patternmaking and costuming.
Where did you learn your craft?
I come from a family of creative~souls… I knew at a very young age that I would always be creating some type of art or creation of some type throughout my lifetime. My grandmother taught me to sew and crochet when I was young and I started making doll clothes with fabric and glue. My first complete sewing project with fabric and thread was a v~neck, semi~sleeved top (a bit wonky~looking) with matching shorts made for my sister, from a baby~blue bedsheet. She was so proud and so was I!
How long have you been creating professionally?
I have been creating my art for music festivals, craft and trade shows for over 13 years. I have even created a piece for display in the Hollywood wax museum. Tangled~hangers designs was inspired in 2002.
What inspires you?
My family and friends, love and positivity, music, sunshine, butterflies and fairies; daisies, roses, the smell of jasmine. Monkeys and smiling~faces! Mother~earth in all her beauty and cruising the *beautiful* coast of california with my *sweet~ones*! The color pink and anything that sparkles! Warm California sun and cool ocean breezes!
How does creating make you feel?
At ease with myself and the chaos around me, extremely happy and uplifted!
What other artist inspires you most?
Ohh sooo many! But, I will say that I really do like jay mccarroll …. He has a super~cute and whimsical fabric~line out that I cannot wait to get my scissors into or even just to add to my fabric~stash ~~ yes I am addicted!
What colors make you happy?
Pink, pink, pink and all shades of ocean blues and earthy~hues and jewel~tones.
Do you listen to music while you create? If so, what?
Yes, yes, yes… Music is a must! It normally depends on what I am making or how I am feeling that day, but definitely something uplifting and positive…. Bob Marley, Grateful Dead, Steve Kimock, Roots and Reggae, Elvis, Talking Heads, Gwen Stefani, old school Michael Jackson just to name a few!
If you were to pick a different medium or craft to specialize in, what would it be?
I would really like to learn more about knitting and felting. And I have always wanted to learn glassblowing and lampworking and probably pottery and ceramics too!
Do you have any favorite places to shop for supplies for in the area?
I am still looking for a favorite fabric shop in the area and I would love to hear some suggestions if anyone has any. I really miss the downtown LA Fashion and fabric district! But, Hobby Lobby is definitely a great place to go for other crafty items!
What is your studio or work space like?
My sewing haven is a cozy~brick~walled room with high~ceilings and a bit of creative~clutter. I have lots of inspiration around me and I just love to be surrounded by my piles of fabrics and my four sewing machines!
If you could have your dream studio anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Costa Rica or Panama! Beautiful beaches, rainforests and amazing wildlife too! I love the ocean and the laid back island lifestyle ! And the people are super sweet too, pura vida! Look for my new collection coming soon… pura~vida!
